Health & warmth

An excessively hot house can cause several health problems. Here are some ways excessive indoor heat can affect health:

  1. Dehydration: High temperatures can lead to excessive sweating, which can result in dehydration if sufficient fluids are not taken in.
  2. Heatstroke: This is a serious condition that can occur when the body becomes unable to regulate its temperature. Symptoms may include dizziness, nausea, headache and loss of consciousness.
  3. Sleep disorders: Too warm an environment can make it difficult to fall asleep or sleep through, leading to fatigue and reduced daytime performance.
  4. Exacerbation of chronic conditions: People with chronic conditions such as heart disease, respiratory problems and diabetes may be especially affected by high temperatures, which can worsen their symptoms.
  5. Heat exhaustion: This is a less severe form of heat-related illness, but can still be dangerous. Symptoms include profuse sweating, weakness, fatigue, dizziness and nausea.
  6. Increased humidity: A warm environment can also lead to increased humidity, which can promote mould growth and cause respiratory problems, especially in people with asthma or allergies.

It is important to take measures to keep the house cool in hot weather, such as using fans, air conditioning, closing curtains during the hottest hours of the day and drinking enough water to stay hydrated.
